Mel Collins & the D. Ben-jamin BIG Band are a 17 piece ensemble made up of 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxes and a four piece rhythm section (piano, bass, drums, guitar). Conducted by Duane Benjamin and vocally led by Mel herself. Reminiscent of the glory days of The Sahara in Vegas, or Ella Fitzegerald and Count Basie at the Newport Jazz Festival, this sound is classic and fun! Their repertoire consists of standards from the 40s and 50s all the way to today’s contemporary popular hits.
They’ve recently performed to sold out crowds at Catalina Jazz Club, The Pasadena Playhouse and Typhoon restaurant, and debuted their original tune “Good Man Blues” at the 2013 Oscars Governor’s Ball. Book this set when you want a BIG night!
